Her is how it has worked for me:
What a monkey show.
Sales person was outrageously rude and obnoxious. I will NEVER go to this location again. I use this companies services regularly and was "blown away" by this experience.
Went to get a hitch installed and everything went perfectly. Was done sooner than they said, and cheaper than anywhere else.
When you try to get an appt for an install of a trailer/receiver hitch your call often goes to a central phone operator, not the local store. I am certain they created this operator role because each store is so dismally understaffed that they cannot answer the phones. Here is the process:
I made a reservation to install a hitch by calling. I showed up at that time and the employee said, "that guy doesnt work afternoons, your appointment is no good, we cant honor it." No empathy at all, didnt care one bit about wasting my time, made no attempt to salvage the situation.
So....this central operator SOP is more like a POS. What a freaking joke. I cannot believe the owners of U-Haul stores know this is happening, money walking out the door every day. Rule number 1 of a business: if someone is trying to buy from you what you advertise as your core business, SELL IT TO THEM.
1. The operator checks to see if they have your hitch in stock at that location. For me, yes both times.
This Uhaul is wonderful. The people that work here are very understanding and nice.
3. You schedule an install and arrive, get the hitch, pay for the hitch, drive away with an installed hitch. Riiiight.
Steps 1-2, same as above.
2. The operator looks at the installer schedule for the location you prefer and tell you when they can do the work.
or
Step 3 the second time (I know, I know, the second time? Really, you gave them a second time?): The operator tells me yes, they can do the job later today, just head on over. Uh, right, how about you call and verify that they are actually there and know they have an install scheduled. She tells me not to worry, she is looking at the schedule for that store now and they are working and have nothing scheduled, no problem, just show up at 5. Uh, right, please call the location and verify there is someone there to do the work. She calls, they do not answer. She IMs them, they do not answer. She leaves them a note via internal email saying to call me (the customer) asap to verify the install. Never once heard from that store. What a monkey show.
Step 3: I arrive, the local store has no idea why I am there or who set up a hitch install when the installers are on their way out the door. They are done for the day. It is 3:30 pm.
If I could give a big fat ZERO I would. What a crummy service outfit. Twice I have tried to get a trailer hitch for my cars installed, twice I failed. I am TRYING TO GIVE YOU MY MONEY. You failed in the exact same way both times at 2 different locations, meaning that the problem is systemic at U-Haul.
